Summer Convention 2009
Prior to the start of classes, FVA holds its Summer
Convention (formerly called Pre-School Convention). At this time,
teachers are afforded an excellent opportunity to renew professional
acquaintances, meet new people and to participate in enlightening
workshops. This convention is designed to address concerns and discuss
ideas that are immediately applicable to teaching in the upcoming year.
Always useful are the choral reading sessions where new or
tried-and-true music is introduced. Single copies of the FVA Music List
are available for browsing. All-State music for SH, JH/MS and Treble
Concert choruses is read and sometimes conducted by the January
clinician. One of the two General Membership meetings is held at this
time.
Registration / General Info
The pre-registration form for FVA Summer Convention is now available. Be advised that Head's Choral Panorama (July 30 - 31, 2009) and FVA Summer Convention (July 31 - Aug 1, 2009) are held consecutively at the same location, but they require separate registration forms.

The convention is held at the Altamonte Springs/Orlando Hilton Hotel at 350 S. Northlake Blvd., Altamonte Springs.

Driving Directions
From I-4, take the exit for SR 436 (#92). Go east on SR 436 to the
stoplight just east of I-4 (Northlake Blvd.). Turn right (south) at the
light and follow the road past the shopping center, around a long curve
and you will come to the hotel on your right.
Adjudicator Training and/or Re-Certification Sessions
This session is held Wednesday just before Summer Convention at the
Hilton Orlando/Altamonte Springs Hotel. The regular training session
will begin at 9:00AM and continue until 5:00PM.
To register for this session, fill out the registration form
and mail along with a check ($35 fee payable to FVA) to Dale Choate.
Registering on site Wednesday morning is $45 if you have not
pre-registered.

Adjudicator Re-Certification Session
Re-certification for adjudicators whose certification has expired
will also be held the Wednesday of Summer Convention, at the Hilton
Orlando/Altamonte Springs. This session is FREE.

New Director Breakfast
This breakfast, on Saturday morning during the convention at 7:30
AM, is a means for new choral directors (to Florida, to teaching, or to
the secondary level) to become acquainted with FVA procedures.
Handbooks and Music Lists will be available for their use, and if their
dues are paid, to take home! Other materials will also be supplied in
an attempt to familiarize them with All-State and MPA sight-reading and
the All-State musicianship tests.
Renew Your MENC/FMEA/FVA Membership
You may pay your membership dues at the convention and receive your
handbook there. Handbooks are hot off the press and will be in your
pre-registration folder. If you have not sent your dues to Tallahassee
yet, send it now or you may plan to pay at summer convention. We will
send it there for you! Membership applications will be available at
summer convention.
